What is a synod?
The word “synod” means “walking together on the way.” It is when the Church (clergy and laity) come together to discuss a particular area affecting the Church and the world.
What is the purpose of this “Synod on Synodality”?
Pope Francis is calling us to live out the fullness of what it means to walk together (to be a Synodal Church) where all members of her body, not just the ordained leadership, get an opportunity to express how they believe the Spirit is moving in their community. This synod is a mass consultative effort to discern together.
What is the question to answer?
This Synod poses the following two-part fundamental question: A synodal Church, in announcing the Gospel, “journeys together.”
Ready to provide input?
First, begin with prayer:
I stand before You, Holy Spirit, aware of your presence in the Church. With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts; Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder. Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions. Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right. All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever. Amen.
